Am I going about this the wrong way?

So, My doc told me to stay off my foot. I have crutches.

My family keeps saying that I should get up instead of lay on the couch all day & that I'm only depressed because of  [who's name we shall not speak]

They said I need to get up and do things, and that I'm being a crybaby.

It's possible.

Any suggestions, idea's? are they right? I'm open for opinions.

  1. Hi Sally,

Sorry to read about all you're going through. It's been one year since my Lisfranc surgery. I understand the fear and insecurities going through your mind right now. Hang in there. Trust your doctors. Ensure you get the best possbile care you can. Often it is the lack of treatment, not the treatment itself, that causes long term problems. A Lisfranc is a serious injury, but it is certainly one from which you can recover. I was fortunate to be treated by an excellent foot and ankle surgeon.

The recovery is a long and frustrating process. I moped around the house. I felt depressed. I felt angry. Your family means well. Don't take their criticism to heart. You'll know when you're ready to go out. Stay positive and focus on the long term goal that you will feel better.

  3. Hi, I don't know if my first comment took...I sometimes have trouble getting comments to stick.
A few ideas for making the time pass:
    1. Learn something new...my blog was really and excuse to learn about SEO for a relative.
    2. If you have a job, see if they can send some work home for you to do.
    3. Playstation games
    4. Have friends visit
5 Do exercises to keep all the other muscles toned. Make sure they are OK to do, though.
    6. Catch up on sleep
    7. Make a list of all the things you wanted to do when you have time. Do as many as possible.
    8. Practice some relaxation exercises
    9. Watch really funny movies.
Of course, a lot depends on whether you have to have an operation, how much pain you are in, and if the foot needs to be elevated. Different people had different orders from their doctor.
You realize the most important part, though...that being in the dumps doesn't help. It will be great if you can pull yourself out!
    Good wishes!
    Chris

  4. I am doing fine now. My foot has healed. As my doctor put it in medical and non-liable terms - I have a functional foot. I am getting ready to start running again. It still feels kind of weird when I walk barefoot on a hard surface. I feel it's still improving, even though it's been a year.

I was non-weight bearing for 8 weeks. I watched a lot of movies. When the whether was nice, I sat on the lawn chair on my patio and read a book. I hardly went out because I couldn't drive (right foot). When I was able to weight bear, I spent a lot of time rehabilitating in the pool, hot tub and the gym, in addition to visiting my physiotherapist three times a week.
